Campfire! Summer Bible Camp is always looking for volunteers. The Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to serve hundreds of children. We need the help of volunteers like YOU!
Campfire! has a variety of volunteer positions. Most positions run the length of a camp session, Sunday night through Saturday. Each position is challenging, fun, rewarding and open for application!
Campfire! Sunday Night Arrival Policy
All volunteers are welcome to arrive at the Campfire! property at 7:30pm on the Sunday evening preceding their week at camp. Opening activities will begin at 8:00 p.m. Please note that as a result of this new start time, dinner will not be provided. The Campfire! property will be closed to all volunteers from 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Volunteer Opportunities
Every spring we host one or two work days. We require people to help with some of our ongoing construction activities, as well as to provide the facilities with a good spruce-up prior to our summer camp operations. Good food and a great times are guaranteed. These times are perfect for a few volunteers or even larger youth groups. Many hands make light (and faster) work. Arrangements for overnight accommodation would be readily available.
Dates are posted sometime in the spring time.
Cooks
Calling all of you who like to cook... (more than Kraft Dinner, that is!).
Your cooking responsibilities will include preparing three meals a day and snacks for the whole camp. Feeding the whole camp may seem like feeding a small army, but do not be discouraged - the army will only consist of as many as eighty people or more. Each team of cooks will be given a variety of menus and exciting ideas, which they will work with for their week at camp. All of the cooks will be working under the direction of an experienced "seasoned" head cook. Look forward to an enjoyable time at Camp providing nourishment for all and even having time to join in camp activities. Although we usually prefer if you can commit to a whole week, there are some part weeks available as well. Please ask. For more information or to sign up for a week at camp please contact .
Kitchen Helpers
Kitchen Helpers will be working to assist the cooks in preparing and serving the meals and snacks (much like what Hamburger Helpers do for the busy wife!). If you enjoy working with food and would like a "taste" of camp life, this is the job for you! Kitchen helpers need to be 16 or older for Discovery and Sprouts weeks and 18 or older for Teen weeks. Too young? We do make some exceptions - please inquire -
Nurses
The nurse is in! To all nurses out there we invite you to camp for a week, band-aids in hand. You will be on staff to care for the needs of campers and counsellors. As nurse you will be given the medical history of the campers and medications that may need to be taken. Our lodge is fully equipped with a furnished nursing station and bed (actually it's a cot, but who's checking?) Nurses have a great opportunity to be involved in camp activities and fun. If you can not commit for a whole week, we also welcome extra nurse help on each Monday of the camp week to assist with camper health checks.
Lifeguards
Back strokes, front strokes, and butterfly strokes, no fancy strokes needed here. If you like to swim and guard others while doing so, then this is the job for you. Swimming is a favourite activity for most campers and counsellors at camp. Each week some time is spent at the ponds on the property and a day trip out to Wasaga beach. Most lifeguards come as counsellors and stay the whole week. However, if you can't commit for the week, then a day or two would be great. Need at least Bronze Cross qualifications.
Bus Drivers
Bus service is provided to transport campers to and from camp every week. For this we are in need of bus drivers who could volunteer to drive the bus from the Hamilton area to camp on Monday mornings and from camp back to Hamilton on Saturday mornings. A great way to get involved with camp!
Facility Helpers
Do you just love the satisfaction of a thorough cleaning session? Does it strike a chord deep within you? Campfire! needs YOU! We challenge each church community to come up with a team of 7 to 10 people for one Saturday afternoon of cleaning during the camp session this summer. This will decrease the stress on our hard working counselors and mean that our-end-of summer cleanup will be much less of a burden! If you as an individual would like to help us out, just give us a call and let us know of your availability.
Handy Person
Do you have some handyman skills? Do you take satisfaction in cleaning up? Would you like to participate in some camp activities? If you can answer 'yes' to two of these three questions, we'd love to have you for a week during camp. This role could appeal to any age, including retired individuals or couples. Give us a call to let us know of your availability.
Prayer Support
Many people cannot come to camp each summer, but continue to pray for Campfire! We firmly believe that to run a camp we need, above all, your prayers.
If you have any questions please contact us for more information.
